| Nihon Yamamura Glass began glass
bottle recycling during Japan's period of rapid
economic growth in 1972, when consumption was
considered a virtue and the term 'recycling' was
not in general use. At the root of this decision
was the company's original philosophy, which stated
"We human beings should stop wasting natural
resources and find value in living simply and
modestly." |
|
The bottles are
collected and separated by color and then finely
crushed into a reusable resource called "cullet",
which is converted into new bottles.
Using cullet for new bottles is not only effective
for reducing the amount of waste material society
has to deal with, but also contributes to reducing
the burden on the environment by reducing energy
and CO2 emissions in bottle manufacturing.
At present, the ratio of using of cullet as a
material of our glass bottles amounts to approximately
85%. |
